1. Introduction to NMP
N-methylpyrrolidone, so called: NMP; 1-methyl-2pyrrolidone; N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. Colorless transparent oily liquid with slight amine odor. Low volatility, good thermal and chemical stability, and can evaporate with water vapor. It is hygroscopic. Sensitive to light. Boiling point (oC, normal pressure) 202. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene, and can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds. N-methylpyrrolidone is widely used in industries such as lithium batteries, medicine, pesticides, pigments, cleaning agents, and insulating materials.
2. The nature and stability of NMP
1). Colorless liquid, smell of ammonia, low toxicity of this product. It is miscible with water and soluble in most organic solvents such as ether and acetone. It can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds.
2). Chemical properties: relatively stable in neutral solution. After 8 hours in 4% sodium hydroxide solution, 50%~70% will be hydrolyzed. Hydrolysis occurs gradually in concentrated hydrochloric acid to generate 4-methylaminobutyric acid CH3NH(CH2)3COOH. Due to the reaction of the carbonyl group, ketal or thiopyrrolidone can be formed.
3). It reacts with olefins in the presence of a base catalyst, and an alkylation reaction occurs at the 3rd position. N-Methylpyrrolidone is weakly alkaline and can generate hydrochloride. It forms adducts with heavy metal salts, such as heating with nickel bromide to 150°C to generate NiBr2(C5H9ON)3, with a melting point of 105°C.
3. Operation attention and storage methods and uses
Storage method
Store under a dry, inert gas, keep the container tightly closed, and store in a cool, dry place.
Operation precautions
Avoid exposure: Obtain special instructions before use. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid breathing vapor and mist. Keep away from fire sources. -No smoking. Take measures to prevent static electricity from accumulating.
Storage precautions
Store in a cool place. Keep the container tightly closed and store in a dry and ventilated place. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Air-filled storage is sensitive to humidity
use
This product is an excellent high-grade solvent, a polar solvent with strong selectivity and stability, high-precision electronics, circuit boards, lithium batteries, etc., cleaning agents: degreasing, degreasing, dewaxing, polishing, rust prevention, paint removal, etc. Coatings, inks, and pigments have the advantages of low toxicity, high boiling point, strong solubility, non-flammable, biodegradable, recyclable, safe to use, and suitable for a variety of formulation purposes.
4. NMP recycling
NMP has an extremely wide range of industrial uses. With the development of lithium battery technology, NMP is widely used as a polar solvent. Although NMP has low toxicity, direct discharge will pollute the land and groundwater, and the harm to the environment cannot be ignored. We advocate the use of solvent recovery machines to recycle NMP. That is to save production resources. It also protects the environment.
